- Lucas Wilder of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park completed his Master’s thesis at East Tennessee State University. Titled, “The Evolution of Mountain Warfare in Southern Appalachia,” Wilder examines how the region impacted commanders’ decisions about the style of warfare that would be effective and how the terrain impacted those decisions. Lucas is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in History at Mississippi State University.
- UVa-Wise and History Department alumnus Caleb Greene received his M.A. in military history from Ohio University in Spring 2014. His thesis, “Harrison County in the Secession Crisis and Civil War” looks at the wartime experience of this Virginia/West Virginia county and finds a very complex, and oft- misunderstood, political and social transition. Caleb is considering pursuing his doctorate.
